Festival de Carcassonne
The Festival of the Cité was born in 1957 and is now known throughout the national and global arts scene for it’s unique combination of between 20-25 opera, dance, theatre and music events in the atmospheric surrounds of the medieval Cité. Click here for full details

Highlights include:

JULY Festival of the Bastide St Louis
Running alongside the Festival of the Cité, The Festival of the Bastide features over 80 FREE ENTRY EVENTS inc theatre, French pop, jazz and world music gigs.

JULY Fireworks at La Cité 14th
Bastille Day in Carcassonne is celebrated like no other in France – they quite literally fire up the medieval Cité with the most incredible fireworks display! The legendary display – in part a commemoration of the original burning of the Cité in 1898- is one of the largest in Europe, lasting 25 minutes and culminating in 1200 charges detonated over the 600 metres of the Cité’s facade in just 6 seconds! A spectacle not to be missed.

AUGUST Spanish week
In the last week of August Carcassonne goes fiesta crazy, with a number of free entry Spanish-themed performances and events, featuring Spanish musicians and dance groups

DECEMBER Magic of Noel
Carcassonne is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with concerts, shows, entertainment, for young and old, including a Christmas market, Father Christmas, a spectacular outdoor ice-skating rink, toboggans, and a big wheel. Spread across various locations in the old medieval Cité and the Bastide Saint Louis. With a variety of small individual shops to peruse this is a lovely time to visit for a pre-Christmas shopping trip.

Vide Greniers:
A lovely way to pick yourself up some bargains and enjoy meeting people and exploring the many small villages in the surrounding area. Usually held in the summer months at the weekend this is the English equivalent of the car boot sale but much less commercial.
