Wine
For wine lovers the region offers a diverse selection from the Malpere, Corbieres, Cabardes and the Minervois, all delicious wines of the Languedoc waiting to be discovered and savoured.
I am happy to arrange wine tasting and advise, whether it be an informal outing to a local Domaine or an especially hosted event with a local Master of Wine. The discovery and tasting of wine should be fun, I don’t recommend anywhere that makes you feel pressurized to buy or uncomfortable if you don’t know your way around the different grapes, it’s surprising what you can learn after a short tasting !
Restaurants and Bars:
Being in the heart of the Bastide St Louis and a short walk away from La Cité No.11 is surrounded by a selection of bars and restaurants catering for every palate and pocket !! Whether it be a freshly chosen cut from the butcher and cooked especially for you in a lively local bar or a more formal gastronomic experience I only recommend those I have experienced and are personally happy with.
At the moment I love…
Comte Roger La Cité, newly refurbished and run by Pierre and his wife Sylvie. Pierre is passionate about his cooking and standards are high, eat either outside on the lovely shady terrace or in the stylish and cool interior.
Le Saint Jean La Cité, lots of outside tables right next door to the castle and in a surprisingly quiet square, plenty of choice and varied dishes.
Les Cours de la Cité, A newly opened restaurant bar in a beautiful discreet setting in the heart of La Cité. Sit outside under large umbrella’s in the calm of the stone courtyard. Food is well presented and excellent value for money.
La Roulotte, A two minute walk away from No.11, an unusual French style family run cosy restaurant.
La Divine Comédie A short stroll from No.11, busy and bustling Pizzeria Restaurant. Tempting Plat du Jour to choose from too. Outside dining available.
l’Artichaut, In the Place Carnot, bistro, bar à vins, lovely spot to watch the world go by.
Cathar, two minutes walk away from No.11 and tucked down a shady passage this is a small friendly family restaurant. A large open fire burns all year round inside, in the height of the summer this is the coolest place to come and eat, tables brightly laid up along the narrow passage. Wonderful value.
Le Parc Franck Putelat Michelin starred, stylish and professional, an utter joy to experience this unpretentious restaurant. Lunch outside on the spacious decked terrace is a real treat.
The Celt Traditional Irish pub serving evening meals, just off the Place Carnot. Canal+ Free WiFi access, friendly staff.
Le Cochon Noir Lively wine bar with a good selection of local wines, situated on Place Carnot, atmospheric with funky music.
Crêperie Le Blé Noir Mouthwatering savoury and sweet crepes, lovingly prepared with fresh ingredients. This is a family run restaurant, the service is friendly and cheerful. The cassoulet (the local dish) is highly recommended too.
